Grimsby 41 Club and the Hinge Investment Club

We were concerned, not only about falling membership of our Club but also a decline in attendance at our monthly lunch time meetings at a local restaurant in Grimsby.

We then came up with the idea of forming an investment club which would meet either before or after the 41 Club meeting each month.

The majority of the members of the club wished to be members of the investment club also.

After initial investigation and with the help of Hargreaves Lansdown Stockbrokers Ltd's Guide to Investment Clubs, we formulated a form of agreement, one important part of which was that only members of Grimsby 41 Club were eligible to be members of the Investment Club.

The initial lump sum we all contributed was £250, with further monthly payments of £25.

It was also agreed that the Investment Club activities should not be discussed at the 41 Club meeting.

We agreed to name the Club the Hinge Investment Club, and commenced in July 2002.

We now have 18 members, and it does appear to have improved attendance at 41 Club meetings.

The 41 Club also seems to be more vibrant.

Incidentally in spite of the vagaries of the stock market over the period since we started each member has seen an increase in their investment of approx. £140 ( hopefully "from small acorns ........etc.! )
