When I first had the idea , I didn’t think it would take off like it has. Myself and Peter and the charity are eternally grateful.

Just to put it into perspective. This is how it started.

I decided for my mental health, and to get fit and lose weight, I needed to do something.in isolation I was becoming a couch potato, so I decided to go walking , my pet hate.

I involved fellow Nuneaton 41er and friend Neal Lowe who is my mentor and now personal trainer. He is inspirational as he runs like Forest Gump, and never stops.

He gave me the idea to walk from my house to Aviemore, around 700 kms approx. 430 miles.

So, I decided to set the goal and launch from 1st May. I was listening to random music through Amazon Alexa , and the Proclaimers came on “I’m Gonna be”

So that gave me the idea that

“I CAN WALK 500 MILES AND I CAN WALK 500 MORE” and raise £2,000 for Peter’s choice of charity, Dementia UK . I spoke to Peter NP. And he thought it was a great idea.

It was launched on May 1st and already National President Peter Good has got involved and numerous National Councillors have signed up.

The Aviemore conference team , are now involved.

WE are going to walk 1000 miles between now and the AGM in Aviemore.

It is starting to get a little competitive between some of the councillors and very serious with daily listings of how many miles walked and medical expert John Kilshaw advising on foot treatment and how to look after septic blisters. John Manley is the accountant and keeping records of who is doing what. Rory Tompsett is Mr Motivator , setting everyone challenges .

Jim Conway come up with the idea of involving the ROUND TABLE FAMILY .it’s a 500 more challenge.

The challenge has been thrown out. Can we get 500 members of the ROUND TABLE FAMILY to join in and raise £30,000 for President Peters nominated charity Dementia UK.

Can we get 500 amazing people who are not currently members of our clubs to walk along side us.

Fitness / fun and social distancing fellowship.

From the start , we are averaging approx. 3 miles per day, but if you join us it won’t take long to catch up.

We intend to finish the last few of the 1000 miles walking into the AGM in Aviemore, accompanied by a Scottish Piper.

RAISE MONEY FOR PETER’s CHARITY . Target £30,000.

Now that others are getting involved it has really taken off.

THE SUB THEME is:-

I can Walk / Run / Cycle / Swim, 500 Miles and someone else can do 500 more.

Involve wife / girlfriend / husband / partner, so you are doing 1000 miles as a duo.

The guys who have already started will still do 1000 miles.
