Membership Survey – Results to Date (July 09)

Urgent:The survey has to close on 31st August as at the 6th September as I will need to put the information together for the Autumn magazine. Please help by completing the on-line version of the questionnaire here...

First of all a big thank you to all the clubs who have taken the time to debate the issues we raised following the recent AGM and respond to our questionnaire. The response rate to date of 52% of clubs makes it one of the biggest surveys we have ever seen, but we do want to make it even more representative. We are going to keep the survey open until early September to encourage more clubs to respond. We will also be updating it monthly with new responses so keep watching the page. If your club hasn’t discussed the issue and hasn’t responded to the survey please do so now. You can either complete the survey here on-line or you can send the copy of your questionnaire to your National Councillor. Details of the responses are shown on the Power Point presentation linked from this page but shown below are the headlines.

  • Over 50% of clubs have responded so far representing nearly 55% of membership
  • A majority of the clubs support selective or open membership, 67%
  • The vast majority of those support introduction of selective membership
  • The clubs with recent joiners are in line with the overall survey, 63% in favour of selective or open membership
  • The number of clubs active in the community is low, 42%
  • The number of clubs supporting Table in the community is quite low. 35% of clubs with a Table take no active part in community or fund raising even with their Table

The responses to date give us some good information and will enable us to start to put together proposals which we will present to the AGM in Scarborough. Don’t forget that if you want your voice to be heard and want to hear the full debate you will need to be at the AGM in Scarborough. The date is Saturday 17th April and the conference booking form can be found on the conference page of the web site and in the Summer edition of the magazine.

41 Club in the Community

In addition to the obvious question about membership one of the other key pieces of information in the survey related to community activity. Are we surprised at the result? Probably not, although we were a little surprised at how many clubs who have Round Tables don’t appear to support them. If we do want to make ourselves attractive to Ex-Tablers this is one area that we need to encourage more, though. Equally for those that are involved in fund raising and community work we need to know more about it. To the external world we are an even more secret society than Round Table. To help us with obtaining, for example, additional revenue streams to set against costs and provide member benefits we need to raise our public profile. You will have seen on the front page of the website that jointly with Round Table and Tangent we raised a staggering sum of £300,000. Now, that’s worth shouting about. But what else are we doing? Help for Heroes fund raising has started well but I would like to know what clubs have raised for local or national charities within the last year. If you could let me know that’s great and you can e-mail me at membership@41club.org or let your National Councillor know. Let's try and raise the awareness of who we are. It might help to bring back some lost Ex-Tablers to your clubs but by raising the awareness of the Round Table family it might just help to bring some enquiries to Round Table.

41 Club into the 21st Century?

Just an idea but again it might help to promote us. We are looking at social and business networking sites for establishing contact and discussions. As time permits we will probably create our own groups. You can find me on the following:
