Wokingham 41 Club - Overview

We are a group of guys all over 41 (hence the name) who used to be members of  Wokingham Round Table. We get together, at monthly dinner meetings, at social events and some of us do a bit for local charities. To give you an idea of what we do, there's a few examples in this item, and you can see more on our Facebook (search for "Wokingham Fortyoneclub").

Our monthly Dinner meeting is usually at Sand Martins Golf Club, Finchampstead Road, Wokingham, RG40 3RQ, on the second Tuesday of the month. Meetings start at 8pm but we all arrive 10 to 20 minutes early to get a drink at the bar and to catch up with each other before we sit down for dinner. We have some form of entertainment which could be an after dinner speaker, or more frequently an activity like a quiz or game.

Our social programme is key part of club fellowship, with informal activities organised by individual members as well as events organised by the club. We have enjoyed some excellent "Boys Days Out" to the sort of places that our ladies would not be interested in. Things like the GWR Steam Museum and a tour of the Farnborough Airport.

Social Events with Wives & Partners. We also have joint meetings and socials with our other halves from Wokingham Tangent, throughout the year; with BBQs, Joint social events, and especially at Christmas. In February we challenge each other to the "Turner Challenge Trophy" - which we seem to be very adept at losing each year!

Helping the local community. We occasionally do our bit for our town. From May to October we do some gardening for needy people who can't manage their own gardens.

Joint Meetings with other 41 Clubs - especially for significant occasions or just to get together again.

National Events organised by the national 41 Club. Some of us like to attend the Annual General Meeting - which is a big social bash with Gala Dinner Dances, excellent entertainment and a final night party with 500 of us in fancy dress. It's a sight to behold!

Fundraising. We do some fundraising each year for different local charities. In the last few years, we’ve organised a charity Theatre Night at the Wokingham Theatre and donated the proceeds to organisations like the Diabetes Association. We also help out at the ever popular Wokingham Fireworks at Cantley, a community event that raises money for local good causes.

We are very lucky to have built a link with a French 41 Club at Ales in the south of France. Sometimes we visit them and sometimes they come to see us in the UK.

We try to take off with the doors open Ops! ... and there is some fool hanging on the side.

No worries - he fell off soon as we got airborne.

Safely back on the ground - didn't seem to matter that we had left the boot open.

Ground crew ask Ian where the patient is.

Ah, maybe we should have closed the boot before taking off.
